Aakash Chopra criticized Shubman Gill for his recent performances. Chopra mentioned that Gill will face negative comments due to his lack of good performance. Shubman Gill hasn’t been able to score more than ten runs in the first three T20I matches out of the five-game series against West Indies.
Chopra pointed out that the current issue revolves around Shubman Gill’s performance. Chopra criticized the opening batsman and highlighted that during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), he noticed numerous comments referring to Shubman Gill as a King rather than a Prince. However, Gill has struggled to score runs for the Indian team since that IPL season.
Aakash Chopra criticizes Shubman Gill

“At this point in time, the problem is with Shubman Gill’s form. During the IPL, I read in many places that he is no longer the prince but the king. But after that, there was the WTC final, he didn’t score too many runs there, played two Test matches against the West Indies, didn’t score runs there,” Aakash Chopra said.
Chopra also mentioned that when the pitches are not as fast, the standout player from Gujarat Titans struggles to get into a good flow. This situation occurred again during the tour in West Indies.
“Then he played three ODIs, where he scored one half-century and a score of 34. He has single-digit scores in all three T20Is. It seems like he hasn’t scored runs at all on this West Indies tour. I feel there is one thing with him for sure – when the pitches are slightly slow, he will find it difficult to find his rhythm,” he added.

Chopra went on to strongly criticize Shubman Gill, expressing that the 23-year-old will face the highest level of criticism if he doesn’t manage to score runs, particularly in shorter format matches.
“He will have to look into this because whenever you play as an opener, especially in white-ball cricket, you will be scrutinized the most. You will have the best opportunity to score runs but will be scrutinized the most as well. It gets highlighted very quickly when you don’t score runs,” he said.
Chopra also made it clear that neither of the openers will be dropped from the team.
“We saw Ishan Kishan being dropped for the last match. If the same yardstick is used, Shubman Gill should also be dropped. But he won’t be because both are not going to be dropped together,” he further added.
