Wanindu Hasaranga, the world’s no. 2 leg-spinners according to the ICC T20I rankings, has stated that two clubs from the Indian Premier League (IPL) had approached him. This follows his heroics against India, which enabled Sri Lanka to win their first bilateral series against the Men in Blue in a long time. It was, in fact, their first T20I series victory against their neighbors.
With his recent exploits, Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has wowed everyone. Hasaranga took 10 wickets in the white-ball series against India. In the ODI series, the right-arm spinner took three wickets, but in the T20I series, he was the leading wicket-taker with seven.
The T20I series was won by Sri Lanka by a 2-1 margin over a COVID-stricken Indian side. Hasaranga won the player of the series award despite being the highest wicket-taker on either team. He took seven wickets throughout the course of the three games.
Aside from that, he hit 29 useful runs with a strike rate of above 130. Throughout the series, his economy was less than six, and it was apparent that the Indian batsmen were finding it tough to pick him up. Hasaranga wreaked havoc on the Indian batsmen in the series decider, finishing with figures of 4 for 9 from four overs.
Hasaranga on two IPL sides approaching him
Hasaranga stated that he was approached by two IPL teams following the India series in a recent interview with Sri Lanka’s great Lasith Malinga. The Galle-born cricketer did not reveal the identities of the IPL franchises, but he did acknowledge that playing in the lucrative competition is a goal of his.
“Two IPL teams have approached me after the series against India. Getting a chance to play in the IPL is a big deal, and it’s my dream to feature in the IPL one day,” Hasaranga said.
There has been no confirmation of which IPL teams are involved, and Hasaranga has remained silent on the subject. However, it’s possible that the teams are thinking about the circumstances in the United Arab Emirates.
