The mega auction for the IPL 2022 season is just around the corner. With the addition of two new franchises, Lucknow Supergiants, and Ahmedabad Titans, the Indian Premier League will be a ten-team affair this year.
The Ahmedabad-based franchise has come up with a unique name for the side for the 15th edition of the marquee tournament after appointing star India and Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their captain. The new franchise will be known as the Ahmedabad Titans. Although no official announcement has been made, this development has been widely reported on the internet.
Hardik Pandya will lead Ahmedabad Titans
CVC Capital purchased the rights to the Ahmedabad Titans for 5625 crores and has already signed Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan as the team’s first three key players.
The team will be led by Hardik Pandya, with Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill being selected by the franchise ahead of the bidding event.
The other new team is the Lucknow Super Giants, which was purchased for a whopping Rs 7,090 crore by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, making it the most expensive IPL team to date. It has signed wicketkeeper-opener KL Rahul (17 crores), who will captain the team, as well as all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (9.5 crores) and uncapped spinner Ravi Bishnoi (4 crores), with a 59 crore auction purse available. This team’s head coach will be Andy Flower.
