Top 5 Indian cricketers with most runs against Pakistan

Due to political differences, India has cut off all bilateral series with Pakistan. Now a day they meet in ICC competitions. The ICC ensures that the two teams are always in the same group to ensure that they mandatorily play each other.

Prior to around 2006 when the India Pakistan relations turned sour, they used to play regularly. India had toured Pakistan in 2004 for a test and ODI series. It was in this series that Virender Sehwag had scored a triple century.

1. Sunil Gavaskar

The “little master” leads this list of maximum runs scored against Pakistan. He has played a total of 24 matches against Pakistan and has got 2089 runs against them. His best innings were 166 runs which he scored in the 1980 series. It was the 5th match of the series and was played in Chennai. He scored 166 off 373 balls in the second innings. He averages a fantastic 56.45 against Pakistan.

2. Dilip Vengsarkar

An unusual name in the second position is Vengsarkar. He played 22 matches against Pakistan in his career and scored a total of 1284 runs. He averaged 44.27 against them. His best score against Pakistan was 146 not out. In the 1980 series, it was the second test. This was played in the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium (now called Arun Jaitley Stadium). Batting in the second innings, India was staring at a loss when Vengsarkar batted out time and salvaged a draw.

3. Virender Sehwag

The “Nawab of Najafgarh” is the most dynamic player on this list. He has played a total of 9 matches against Pakistan and has got 1276 runs against them. His best innings was a brilliant triple century where he scored 309 runs which he scored in the 2004 series. He was the first Indian to score a triple century. It was the 1st match of the series and was played in Multan. He scored 309 off 375 balls in the first innings at a strike rate of close to 82. He averages an incredible 91 against Pakistan.

4. Rahul Dravid

The “Wall” has had a great deal of success against the Pakistanis. He has played a total of 15 matches against Pakistan and has got 1236 runs against them. His best innings were 270 runs which he scored in the 2004 series. It was the 3rd match of the series and was played in Rawalpindi. He scored 270 off 495 balls in the first innings. His valiant effort helped India win the match and he was awarded the man of the match for the same. He has a healthy average of 53.73 against Pakistan.

5. Mohinder Amarnath

He has played a total of 18 matches against Pakistan and has scored 1080 runs against them. His best innings were 120 runs which he scored in the 1983 series of India touring Pakistan. It was the 5th match of the series and was played in Lahore. He scored 120 off 200 balls in the first innings. Considering those times, he batted with a healthy strike rate of 60, and his innings were dotted with 15 fours and 1 six.
