The Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians (MI) will have to do without the participation of Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming tournament as he has been deemed ineligible due to his failure to make a comeback into the national team. Bumrah’s last appearance for India was during the home T20I series against Australia in September 2022.
After his last appearance for India in the T20I series against Australia in September 2022, Bumrah has been dealing with a back injury, which has kept him out of action. Due to his long-term injury, he will also be unavailable for IPL 2023, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aims to get him fit and ready for the ODI World Cup, which will be hosted in India later this year.
According to officials working closely with him during his rehabilitation at the NCA, Bumrah was not deemed completely fit to make a comeback for India’s home series against Australia. As a result, he has missed all of India’s recent tournaments, including the T20 World Cup and the Test series against Australia. He is also not included in the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series.
Sunil Gavaskar on the MI

Sunil Gavaskar has recently expressed his opinion regarding Jasprit Bumrah and Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL season. The former Indian captain has predicted that despite Bumrah’s absence, Mumbai Indians will likely be one of the top three teams at the end of the league stage. According to him, the team has talented players who can make up for Bumrah’s loss. It is worth noting that Mumbai Indians finished last in the previous IPL season, having lost 10 matches and winning only four.
“They have to forget what happened last season and got to believe that they have the team to do it again. They will miss Jasprit Bumrah. But they have got a team that can win the championship once again. I see them in the top three definitely, because they have a point to prove after last year’s performance” Gavaskar said.

As of now, Mumbai Indians have not announced a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the season due to his back injury. Another important bowler, Jhye Richardson, was also ruled out before the start of the season. However, Jofra Archer, who missed IPL 2022 due to his long-standing elbow injury, will be back in action for the franchise. It remains to be seen how he performs for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming matches.
