Shreyas Iyer is an Indian cricketer who has captained Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. He has also played for the national team in international cricket and for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Iyer, a right-handed middle-order batsman, has represented India in One Day Internationals, Twenty20 Internationals, and Test cricket.
Early Life and Career
On December 6, 1994, Shreyas Iyer was born in Mumbai to Santosh and Rohini Iyer. Iyer’s father recognized his cricketing ability and assisted him in honing it. Santosh, a businessman who worked from home at the time, played a key role in Shreyas’ decision to play cricket rather than football.
At the age of 12, Pravin Amre, a student of legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar, spotted Iyer at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai’s local cricket hub. Amre noticed a young boy with a lot of potential.
Shreyas represented the Trent Bridge Cricket Team during a trip to the United Kingdom in 2014, appearing in three matches and scoring 297 runs at an incredible average of 99. On that tour, his best score was 171.
In November 2014, Iyer made his List A debut for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. For this match, he gave an outstanding performance.
