On Sunday, Suresh Raina’s hopes of finding a buyer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions for 2022 came to an end. The veteran all-rounder didn’t make the list of 69 players for the accelerated auctions after going unsold on the first day, which meant he was officially out of the race.
Suresh Raina had previously set a base price of Rs. 2 crores for himself. In the previous season, the left-handed batsman was a member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Suresh Raina, like MS Dhoni, had been a key member of CSK over the years. Raina joined CSK in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 and remained with the team until the 2021 season. Raina played for Gujarat Lions when CSK was banned in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Suresh Raina Goes Unsold In IPL 2022
For years, CSK has been a mainstay. At the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Suresh Raina was not selected by the franchise. In the first round, he went unsold, and in the acceleration round, he received no interest from CSK.
As a result, this will be the first season in which Raina does not play for CSK. He did not play in the 2020 season due to his own inability. He might not even be able to play in the IPL.
Raina is one of the most prolific run-scorers in the IPL. The left-handed batsman has 5528 runs in 205 IPL games and is currently the tournament’s fourth-leading run-scorer. In the tournament, the 35-year-old has also shattered 1 century and 39 fifties.
Suresh Raina drew attention in his first season when he smashed 421 runs in the IPL 2008. In the following season, he had another strong showing, scoring 434 runs. Raina had always passed the 400-run mark while representing CSK until the 2014 season.
