For the tenth time in the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians have lost their first game (IPL). They were defeated by Delhi Capitals by four wickets on Sunday (March 27). After it appeared that MI would easily win the game, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel played blinders to startle the five-time winners. Rohit Sharma and his team had a bad day at work, and it didn’t get any better when they were penalized for a slow over-rate in the game.
Because this is the team’s first offence, the captain has been fined INR 12 lakh. The Mumbai Indians will have to be cautious going ahead in the competition, as repeat offences may result in even higher fines.
Rohit Sharma Receives FineFor Slow Over-rate

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Rohit Sharma became the first captain to be punished for a slow over-rate. The Mumbai Indians captain was fined Rs 12 lakh after the 5-time champions failed to complete their quota of overs within the time restriction during a 4-wicket loss to the Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” an official statement from IPL read.

In their IPL 2022 opener, Mumbai Indians bowled only 18.2 overs as Delhi Capitals snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, chasing down 178 with 10 balls and 4 wickets to spare.
Chasing a difficult 178, Delhi has reduced to 72 for 5 inside 10 overs, but Yadav, a lesser-known Delhi all-rounder, remained composed throughout his 38-ball unbroken innings to guide his side to victory. Patel, an all-rounder for India, contributed a quickfire 17-ball 38 not out to help DC reach the goal with 10 balls to spare.
