In the shortest format of the game, Rohit Sharma has broken MS Dhoni‘s record for most victories by an Indian skipper in a calendar year.
After India defeated South Africa in the first T20I in Thiruvananthapuram by an eight-wicket margin, Rohit broke this record. With the victory, Rohit has now led India to 16 victories in 2022. MS Dhoni, a former captain, had 15 victories in 2016.

Rohit Sharma passed another significant mark on Sunday, September 25, when India defeated Australia in the series-deciding T20I match in Hyderabad.
The Indian captain broke MS Dhoni’s record for the most T20I victories by an Indian captain in a calendar year. India has played 21 T20I matches under Rohit’s leadership so far this year, and the Men in Blue have triumphed in 16 of those encounters. Eight victories in a row, three each against the West Indies and Sri Lanka in February, and two against England in July, marked Rohit’s start to 2022. Then, in the Caribbean islands, he won three of the four games he played against the West Indies.
Rohit had won every series he had participated in as the Indian captain. However, his record was broken when India was eliminated from the Asia Cup. India won two games during the group stage but lost the first two Super 4 matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
After missing India’s final match against Afghanistan, he returned for the Australia series. India won the final two games to win the series after losing the opening one. In addition, Rohit earned his 16th T20I victory as Indian captain this year with an eight-wicket victory on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram. With 15 triumphs as Indian captain in 2016, MS Dhoni previously held the record for the most T20I victories in a calendar year.
