TATA IPL 2022 was one worth remembering. It saw the dawn of the younger gen, the newbies who shook the ground of world cricket. From Umran Malik hurling balls at 157 kmph to Ayush Badoni hitting sixes off experienced bowlers, the IPL showed the amount of talent the country hides. Among these promising youngsters, special mentions need to be made of Rajasthan all-rounder Riyan Parag, who made a good name for himself this season. His hard-hitting saved Rajasthan some crucial points. But he was also in the news for all the wrong reasons, namely during the RR vs RCB controversy.
Riyan Parag vs Mohammed Siraj ft Harshal Patel
In match 39, RR faced off against a spirited RCB. Rajasthan was out to bat first and Riyan Parag, playing a crucial knock which included 18 runs off the last over, helped RR reach a respectable total. As he was returning to the pavilion, he seemed to have engaged in a spat of words with RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj. He could be seen pointing at Harshal Patel during their heated exchange, following which the latter player also joined the party and the three battled with words until other players intervened.
Recently, Riyan Parag clarified what happened during the incident on one of his Rooter streams. He talked about how his gesture towards Harshal Patel was a replay of what the latter had done in the last season after claiming Parag’s wicket. Parag added that Siraj called him and asked him to behave according to his age, hence initiating the verbal spat. He claimed it was entirely unnecessary of Siraj to do so, and that the argument could’ve been avoided had Siraj not called him back.
Spat with Ravichandran Ashwin
During the Rooter Stream Parag also opened up on his run-out in the first qualifier wherein he had a moment of heat with veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He opined that Ashwin’s refusal to take a single, while there were no batsmen remaining other than Parag himself confused him, leading to the run-out and the act of frustration was caused because of that. He added how Ashwin later came up to him and apologised, hence getting things back to normal.
