The second match of the three-match ODI series between Team India and the hosts New Zealand was called off due to weather. Shubman Gill, the Indian opener who scored an unbeaten 45-run knock, said following the game that he wanted to “make the most” of the possibilities that were presented.
Rain forced the cancellation of the important match between the two nations. When the rain began to fall, India were 89/1 in 12.5 overs, and play could not be continued. Shubman, who went unbeaten in his time at the crease, said he isn’t planning too far ahead for the upcoming 50-over World Cup 2023, which is going to be held in India.
Additionally, Gill wants to concentrate on creating the best outcomes in his favor with the limited opportunities for team India.
“I am not looking that far (playing in the 2023 World Cup). Right now, my focus is to make the most out of the chances I get to play for the country and score big. This is what I am looking to do in this series as well,” Gill said.
In 11 ODI games so far in 2022, Gill has amassed 625 runs at an average of 78.12 runs per game. Shubman, who shared the crease with Suryakumar Yadav, the player who has been on fire all year, added that there was no need for any conversation with Suryakumar because the batter was simply that great.
“There is no need to have any talk with him out in the middle as he was batting so good,” he added.

Before moving on to the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh, which is set to begin in December, India will now try to win the final encounter in the three-match ODI series against the Kiwis.
