In the midst of persistent rumors over Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future at the club, Dhoni stated on Saturday (November 20) that his final T20 will ‘hopefully be in Chennai.’
In 2021, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to another IPL title. However, he is currently 40 years old, and it is unclear whether he will continue. There are a lot of rumors swirling around the topic, especially with the next mega-auctions. On a recent occasion in Chennai, Dhoni himself gave an update on his predicament.
MS Dhoni makes an announcement about his IPL 2022 plans
Dhoni said he had always planned his cricket while speaking at the ‘The Champions Call – CSK’s celebration’ event.
“I have always planned my cricket. My last game that I played was in Ranchi. The last home game in ODI version was at my hometown in Ranchi. So, hopefully, my last t20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in 5 years’ time, we don’t really know.”, Dhoni said.
If MS Dhoni is retained by the Chennai Super Kings, he will collect a significant portion of the budget. However, it has to be seen whether this is a sensible decision or not, as MSD may not be able to play for more than a year. MSD stated that after winning the IPL 2021, the focus must be on the team. He also stated that he has yet to leave a legacy at the franchise.
Chennai Super Kings won their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy under Dhoni’s leadership after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on October 15 in Dubai. In addition to winning the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014, the franchise has won the event in 2010, 2011, and 2018.
The mega-auctions will take place prior to the 2022 IPL season. Two additional clubs have entered the game, raising the stakes for elite cricketers to be hired. Existing teams will have to make difficult decisions about retention.
