Matty Potts is a cricketer from England. He was born in Sunderland, England on October 29, 1998. He stands about 6 feet tall. He attended St Robert of Newminster Catholic School as well as Sixth Form College. Potts became an overnight sensation on his debut against Kent, where he was given a field of nine slips.
Following his Under-19 stint in 2017, the Durham-born player was signed to a three-year contract by the local county. He made his List A debut for Durham in the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup before earning his T20 cap against Northamptonshire in the T20 Blast the following season.
Potts became a hit for Durham in the red-ball format over three seasons, but he didn’t enjoy success in the shorter formats until 2020. Due to his outstanding performances throughout the season, the pacer attracted a lot of attention.
Durham’s right-arm quick was named the Blast’s joint leading wicket-taker, with 13 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 18.07. Later on, he was named Durham T20 Blast Player of the Year. Potts was in incredible form that season, but he made the most headlines after the game against Yorkshire, where he recorded figures of 3/14 from 3 overs, including the golden duck of Dawid Malan.
The following year, the promising pacer was drafted into the Northern Superchargers squad for the Hundred’s inaugural season. Potts adds an extra tangent to the batting order, making him a better prospect for league cricket.
Potts was named to England’s Test squad for their home series against New Zealand in May 2022, his first international call-up. Potts made his Test debut for England against New Zealand on 2 June 2022.
