- The Indian cricket team is on the verge of losing the series to South Africa, having lost the first two T20Is in the five-match series. While there have been many things that have gone wrong for the hosts in this series, a flurry of wickets in the second T20I saw them fail to put up a respectable total. Even though India were dismissed for 148 in Cuttack on Sunday, Shreyas Iyer revealed that the team’s strategy is to keep hitting even if they are losing wickets.
For the South Africa series, a number of rookie players have been selected, while superstars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. KL Rahul was a member of the squad but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
We’ve made this plan of attacking constantly – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer stressed the importance of focusing on the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia and how they intend to prepare for it. He stated that having a mindset where they are completely free and not thinking about anything else is critical, and that they must put it into practise while considering the upcoming tournament. Even if they failed, he said, they would learn and grow as individuals and as a team, which is crucial ahead of their trip to Australia.
“We have made this plan that we will keep going no matter what happens. Even if we keep losing wickets, it’s our game plan and in the future too, we will go in with the same mindset. We will back ourselves and back our instincts,” Shreyas Iyer said.
India is down 2-0 in the series, which means they must win the next three games in a row to win the series.

“Our main aim is obviously the World Cup, so we have to see to it that we plan towards it. So we have that sort of mindset where we are completely free and not thinking about anything else. No matter what happens, whatever plans we discuss in the team meeting, we have to execute those. Even if we fail, we will learn from that and grow as a player and grow as a team. So that’s more important till we reach Australia,” Iyer added.
