Ashwin highlighted the opportunity for Team India to win two major titles by triumphing in both ICC events this year, including the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India. He emphasized that the clash against Australia will be significant as it marks the first red-ball match of the season for both teams, resulting in equal nervousness on both sides.
Ravichandran Ashwin on Team India’s objectives
Sharing his thoughts on the upcoming match, Ashwin expressed his views on his YouTube channel, stating:
“So many Indians will be coming for the match. For the first time, so many people are asking for passes to come and watch us in the finals. It will be a great year for India since we have a 50-over World Cup after this. We will be aiming for two world titles in the same year. Keep us in your prayers. This will definitely need luck. There is no doubt about that. Both teams are playing their first match of the season, so both teams will be equally nervous,” Ashwin said.
Ashwin highlighted the significance of the WTC 2023 final, stating that it is one of the most significant matches he has played recently. He also mentioned that India has had some excellent training sessions leading up to the event.
“We have had some extraordinary, excellent practice so far. We are fully excited. It is not going to be easy for both teams. We are coming from our T20 season, and Australia are coming back from their break. I am really excited to see how this unfolds. Probably, in recent times, this is one of my biggest matches,” he added.
The highly anticipated WTC 2023 final between India and Australia is scheduled to take place at The Oval starting from Wednesday, June 7. India, who experienced a devastating loss to New Zealand in the first WTC final two years ago, will be determined to rectify their previous disappointment and strive for success in this edition.
Ashwin conveyed his anticipation for the crucial encounter with Australia, expressing his enthusiasm and acknowledging the magnitude of the occasion for the Indian team.
“If you ask me, this is a huge occasion. This is the second WTC final. But we all don’t know. Even the ICC tweeted recently. We don’t know how it will pan out. I am greatly looking forward to it. The ground is getting prepared for the big event. Every ICC event will have this festive feel,” he said.
Providing insight into India’s preparations, Ashwin highlighted that the ICC had shared all the necessary details well in advance with both teams.
“The ICC will plan these events 6-7 months before. But this time, 6-7 months before, they mailed both the teams about how the practice will be and that the match will be at The Oval. So, preparation-wise, they did not leave anything out for both teams,” he further added.
Ashwin is anticipated to have a significant impact in the India versus Australia clash. With an impressive record of 61 wickets from 13 Tests, he stands as the third-highest wicket-taker in the WTC 2021-23 cycle. Notably, he currently holds the top position in the ICC rankings for bowlers in the red-ball format.
