Similar to numerous other cricketers in recent times, Shubman Gill has also become a target on various social media platforms in recent weeks. After his impressive century against Royal Challengers Bangalore, which eliminated them from IPL 2023, the 23-year-old received threats on social media, with some individuals even directing their attacks towards his family members.
In regards to this matter, Gill expressed his approach of completely disregarding the negativity. The cricketer, hailing from Punjab, acknowledged that such incidents had affected him in the past. However, he now consciously chooses to ignore them in order to preserve his mental well-being.
Shubman Gill on dealing with trolls

“When it first started happening to me, it did affect me for some time, for a month or so. But I think eventually you get over it. The best way to get over it is just to not look at them or just to ignore them. Once you start doing that, once you start ignoring them, even if you see it, it wouldn’t affect you this much because then you sort of understand where those people are also coming from. They are also very attached, they are also very emotional,” Gill said.
Gill has proven to be remarkably consistent in his performances, whether playing for Team India or the Gujarat Titans. He recently achieved a double-century against New Zealand in the first ODI of the series, and he currently holds the position of the highest run-scorer in IPL 2023. Reflecting on his recent achievements, Gill expressed his perspective that it is an ongoing journey. He approaches each day with the mindset that the job is not yet complete, maintaining a continuous drive for improvement.

“I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Once IPL finishes, the World Test Championship start. Once WTC is over, Asia Cup will be there. Once Asia Cup is over, you’ll be like ‘Oh, the World Cup is here’. So there is always something in my mind that I look forward to, and (feel) the job is not done yet. But it’s been a great year so far for me and I’m really fortunate and really happy for that,” he added.
