Robin Uthappa, the wicketkeeper batter from Karnataka, has been predominantly known for his wholesome IPL stint. Currently, a part of the Chennai Super Kings since the 2021 edition. During the team’s 2021 playoff stint, Robbie has been a swashbuckling run-getter for the team. Mostly warming up on the bench, Uthappa has scored 91 runs in his three-match campaign with a commendable strike rate of 156.60. In the ongoing edition, he has solved the top-order issue of the batting department, only to a certain extent.
“I value those conversations and they go a long way in making a player feel invested in the franchise.” Robin Uthappa
A video was uploaded by the CSK’s official YouTube handle, where we can see how Robin Uthappa expresses his happiness in joining the Yellow Army.
He stated, “I remember after we won the trophy last year, came back to the room and the first thing I said to my wife was man I don’t care what happens anywhere, I only hope I can come back here and finish here. Just to be able to come back here is something I’m truly grateful for.”
He had also heaped praises on the team and its management about how he had got a chance to celebrate the team’s victory with their families. He stated, “For me when I wasn’t playing those first 12 games, every week, one or the other coach would come and have a conversation with me. Those conversations were gold for me, never mind gold, they were platinum for me. I value those conversations and they go a long way in making a player feel invested in the franchise. What was sweet was that we were able to lift the trophy and celebrate it with our families. I will take those celebrations to my grave.”
“I have always believed one of his strengths is his ability to score behind the wicket.” Eric Simmons
From the video, we see Eric Simmons, the team’s bowling consultant, was brimming with appreciation lines towards the veteran IPL batter. He had stated, “I think his ability to score around the wicket. I have always believed one of his strengths is his ability to score behind the wicket. It makes it very tough to bowl too. So you will always see teams will have a third man too, which means there is a gap somewhere else for him to exploit.”
Currently, CSK stands at last in the points table. As they have lost four consecutive matches, there have been several drawbacks for the team to correct. And if Robin Uthappa would get back to his vintage game, that would boost the team’s comeback and hopes to qualify for the playoffs.
