The comment was made following Varma’s performances in the initial three T20 matches against West Indies, where he scored 39 runs off 22 balls, 51 runs off 41 balls, and an unbeaten 49 runs off 37 balls. The left-handed batter is presently the top scorer in the five-game series, having accumulated a total of 139 runs with a strike rate of 139.
“Tilak Varma is so talented – he got the hunger, that is the most important thing, he is so mature and whenever I talk with him – you get the feel that he knows when he wants to hit & what he wants to do,” Rohit said.
Varma was added to the T20 international team after his impressive performances for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. The 20-year-old scored a total of 740 runs in 25 matches with a strike rate of 144.53, which included three fifty-run innings.

Meanwhile, MSK Prasad has supported Tilak Varma for the One Day Internationals (ODIs), especially with the uncertainty surrounding the No. 4 position in Team India as they prepare for the 50-over World Cup scheduled in India from October 5 to November 19.
“Tilak Varma is so talented – he got the hunger, that is the most important thing, he is so mature and whenever I talk with him – you get the feel that he knows when he wants to hit & what he wants to do,” he said.
“If you see his domestic cricket also, it’s close to 55 or 60, his average in one-day format. He has got a pretty bright chance to get into the squad if Shreyas Iyer is found unfit,” he added.
