Jasprit Bumrah, India’s frontline seamer, recently discussed his relationship with skipper Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma’s support during his early career with the Mumbai Indians, according to Jasprit Bumrah, helped him develop confidence and grow as a bowler. After being picked by MI in 2013, Bumrah said he began playing regularly for the 5-time champions in the Indian Premier League under Rohit’s captaincy.

Since 2013, Jasprit Bumrah has been a part of the franchise. He began his career under Ricky Ponting, but under Rohit Sharma, he blossomed as a matchwinner for Mumbai. With 130 wickets from 106 games, Bumrah is among the top ten wicket-takers in the tournament.
Bumrah told R Ashwin on his YouTube show that his relationship with Rohit has been the same since the beginning of his career, and that the skipper’s trust in him has played a significant role in his success. The highly-rated Indian fast bowler said the relationship has progressed to the point where Rohit now allows him to direct his field placements and bowling plans for the Mumbai Indians.
“It’s been very good (Relationship) since the early days. When I came into the side, Ricky Ponting was the captain but I was not playing regularly. But under Rohit, I did. He had a lot of confidence in me, he instilled confidence,” Bumrah said.
“He saw me bowling in the nets and the skills that I have. He always backed me, told me to believe in myself. Whenever in the initial stages as well, he had a lot of trust in me. He would give me the important overs. It’s been the same relationship.” said Bumrah.
The pace bowler made his debut for the Indian national team and has since developed into an important member of the side in all three formats, and is now the team’s frontline bowler.
“Now we have reached a stage he doesn’t even tell me things. He will tell ‘you set the field on your own, if you have any changes, tell me, I will do that. He has had that trust because I have made things work. Somedays, things might not go well, but he always has kept the atmosphere in our team very simple and calm,” Bumrah added.
