In a nostalgic reflection, experienced Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh recounted an incident from 2018 when he witnessed MS Dhoni in tears. Harbhajan, who shared the field with Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for three years, revealed that he saw Dhoni crying during a team dinner following CSK’s return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after serving a two-year suspension. Although Dhoni began his IPL career with CSK, he briefly played for the Rising Pune Supergiant for two seasons while the Yellow Army faced a ban during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The seasoned spinner shared the story, mentioning that Dhoni became highly emotional during the team dinner due to his deep attachment to CSK.
Harbhajan Singh recalls a story about MS Dhoni

“There is a story which I want to share. Back in 2018, when CSK made a comeback to this league after a 2-year ban, there was a team dinner. I have heard the saying that ‘Men don’t cry’, but MS Dhoni cried on that night. He became emotional. I think no one knows about this. Right, Imran (Tahir)?,” Harbhajan said.
During the same panel discussion, Imran Tahir, another former CSK star, expressed that Dhoni perceives the team as a close-knit family, making the moment highly emotional for all the players involved.
“Yes, of course. Even I was there. It was a very emotional moment for him. Looking at him like that, I came to know how close this team is to his heart. He considers the team as his family. It was very emotional for all of us,” Tahir said.

CSK staged a remarkable comeback to the league and delivered an impressive performance, clinching the IPL title in the 2018 season with great authority.
“We came back after 2 years and won the trophy. And when people give your team the tag of ‘buddhe’ (old men), and even I was in the squad that season, but we won the title. I am very proud of that victory,” Tahir added.
Once again, Dhoni has showcased excellent management of his resources this season, leading CSK to qualify for the playoffs despite grappling with numerous injury setbacks within their team.
