Glenn Maxwell, who plays as an all-rounder for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has recently admitted that he was uncertain about whether the team would retain him ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.
Upon joining Bangalore for IPL 2021, Maxwell made a quick impression by achieving a remarkable feat of scoring 513 runs in 15 matches, which included six half-centuries, at an average of 42.75.
Glenn Maxwell was unsure about his retention

Although Maxwell had a successful season, he was uncertain about being retained by the franchise due to the unpredictable nature of auctions. The renowned Australian all-rounder recently discussed his thought process during that time in an episode of the RCB podcast.
“You never know what’s gonna happen because it’s a big auction. And like, with how many people they were going to retain and we had, obviously, a couple of bowlers — Siraj, Harshal, Yuzi (Chahal), then AB, Virat, and those young Indian players, and all could have been retained at some stage. So to retain an overseas batter, sometimes isn’t the smartest move. It seems straightforward, but in my head, there was obviously a lot more I had to go through and when I got the phone call that I was gonna be retained. I was pumped and couldn’t wait to stick around,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell demonstrated his gratitude towards RCB’s confidence in him by delivering another impressive season, scoring 301 runs in 13 matches during IPL 2022 with a strike rate of nearly 170. He will continue to play for RCB in the upcoming IPL 2023 season after the franchise retained him prior to the auction. On April 2, RCB will play their first match against Mumbai Indians (MI), led by Rohit Sharma, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
