After losing to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) once more fell short of taking home the coveted IPL title. The Faf Du Plessis-led team fluctuated in performance and was unable to gain the momentum necessary to triumph in a competition like the IPL.
Top players from all around the world have always been a part of the RCB team. RCB have achieved numerous IPL records throughout the course of 15 seasons.
1. Highest team score – 263-5
On April 23, 2013, RCB batsmen were at their best. Chris Gayle launched a vicious attack on the helpless PBKS bowlers, smashing 175* off 66 balls, with a supporting role from Tillakaratne Dilshan. He scored at a brilliant strike rate of 265 while plundering 17 sixes and 13 boundaries. AB De Villiers’ cameo in the last over made sure that RCB scored the highest total (263-5) ever by a side in IPL history.
2. Most centuries by a team
In the IPL’s history, RCB batsmen have scored up to 15 hundreds, more than any other franchise. Chris Gayle, the current Universe Boss, and former RCB captain Virat Kohli have each struck five centuries. Devdutt Padikkal, Manish Pandey, and Rajat Patidar have all broken the three-figure barrier once.
3. Most Sixes in an innings (17)
Chris Gayle activated his beast mode when facing PWI bowlers and smashed an incredible 175 off 66 balls. He became the proud owner of this uncommon record, which will require some work to surpass, by hitting 17 sixes in his innings. Gayle scored 154 of the 175 runs he scored from his own boundaries. Outstanding, to put it mildly.
4. Partnership of 229* runs
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers batting together is a nightmare for bowlers. The pair has excelled at making batting look beautiful and easy on numerous occasions. Over the years, they have become RCB’s most valuable assets. Against the Gujarat Lions in 2016, Kohli and ABD went on the offensive. Over the course of their epic partnership of 229*, they both reached personal hundreds. Since then, no one has even come close to breaking this record.
5. Most Matches for a Single team
Virat Kohli holds a unique record. He is the only player to appear in every IPL season and represent the same squad. The second on the list is MS Dhoni, who has played 204 matches for CSK, far fewer than the 223 matches that Kohli has played for RCB. Notably, during the two years that CSK was suspended from the IPL, Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiants.
