IPL 2022 has become a cradle for new talent to blossom and shine. We have seen the likes of Ayush Badoni, Umran Malik and Tilak Verma burst onto the scene. One name that has got everyone talking is Umran Malik.
His performances have caught the attention of the whole nation. SRH retained him last season and subsequently, he has been under the watchful eyes of Dale Steyn. Recently he has been on top of every speed charts and consistent winner of the Swiggy quickest ball bowled award. Currently there is fierce competition between him and Lockie Ferguson as to who would bowl the fastest ball of the season.
Umran Malik- the king of pace
In the ongoing match against Chennai Super Kings, it seems that Malik has left Ferguson behind. It was in the 10th over when he was bowling to the young Ruturaj Gaikwad. He bowled hard into the pitch and it was a short pitched ball. Immediately ball jumped off the pitch and hurried Gaikwad into a pull shot. Ruturaj was in no control of the shot and was late to the shot. Luckily for him, the ball hit the top edge and sailed over the keeper’s head for a boundary. The ball speed showed on the screen, it read 154 kmph. This is by far the fastest ball of the season and will take some doing to better.

Fans not impressed
Malik may have bowled the fastest ball and got his name on the record books. However, his supporters and fans are not impressed. Although his pace was high, his bowling performance was abysmal. Gaikwad plundered him and he went for 48 and no wickets to show for. His fans criticized his performance and many demanded that the hype around him should be reduced as he has a long way to go. Many called on him to focus on his line and length and be more focused. We are sure that the dip is a one match issue and Malik will surely bounce back.
