Virat Kohli made his debut in the longest format of the game on this day 11 years ago. Kohli, who is right-handed, made his Test debut against the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, and scored 4 and 15 in the game. Kohli is now one of the lynchpins of India’s batting line-up, having claimed the No.4 batting slot. Kohli also had a successful captaincy tenure in the game’s longest format.
Kohli, who has been playing Test cricket for 11 years, posted a video montage on Monday, covering all of his major milestones in the sport, with the caption “Time flies.”

Kohli reached the major milestone of 100 Test matches earlier this year when he faced Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali. In total, the Indian batting legend has appeared in 101 Test matches, scoring 8043 runs at a 49.96 average. In the longest format, he has 27 centuries, including seven double hundreds.
Kohli is also India’s all-time most successful Test captain. He captained his country in 68 Test matches, winning 40 of them. After India’s away series defeat to South Africa in January 2022, he stepped down from the position. Kohli led India in Test cricket for seven years after taking over full-time in 2015 after MS Dhoni retired.

India won a Test series in Australia for the first time in 2019 under Kohli’s captaincy. Kohli and his teammates were on the verge of winning an away Test series in England for the first time in 2007 before the series was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak. When India plays the fifth and final Test match of the series in Edgbaston from July 1 under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, they could complete the feat.
