There are 2 religions in India. One is Bollywood and the other is cricket. It unites the country like nothing else. People from various regions and diverse backgrounds follow both these activities with immense fervour and gusto.
Cricketers are worshipped like Gods by fans. They command an incredible following and are huge role models. This sometimes makes them do things out of the ordinary. Fans name their children after their favourite cricketers, tattoo their names on their bodies, follow their stars wherever they go or even run into pitches to touch the feet of their favourite stars.
Fan barges into the ground
A similar incident occurred in yesterday’s match where Mumbai Indians took on Royal Challengers Bangalore. While the match was on, a cricket fan ran into the ground and straight away went to the biggest Indian cricketers of this decade. He first went to Virat Kohli and funkily gave him a fist bump.
After fist-bumping the erstwhile Indian captain, he quickly moved to go and interact with the incumbent Indian captain, i.e. Rohit Sharma. The match was momentarily paused while this drama unfolded on the ground.
Police intervene and take control
He was interjected by the police presence on the ground. The man has been identified as Dashrath Jadhav and he is 26 years old. He lives near Pune. He was later arrested by the police where he misbehaved with the cops. He has been booked for criminal trespass and assault or use of criminal force to deter public servants from the discharge of his duty under the Indian Penal Code.
The police said, “Despite repeated warnings, the man entered the ground by jumping over the fence. He initially gave a fist bump to Virat Kohli and then ran towards Rohit Sharma. He was subsequently detained by the policemen on duty. When he was being escorted out of the ground, he manhandled the cops and created a ruckus.”
