Mohammed Shami of the Gujarat Titans has set a new record in the tournament’s history. He is the only cricketer in the last 15 years to have played every match for his team without ever coming to bat.
This season, Team GT, which is known for finishing games in the final over, has played a total of 16 games. The right-handed seamer, on the other hand, finished the season without facing a single ball.
Mohammed Shami becomes the first cricketer to play all games in a season without batting
The Indian Premier League’s fifteen seasons came to an end recently. Gujarat Titans made a name for themselves in the competition by winning the championship in their first season. They stood out from the rest of the competition by a long shot. In addition, the Ahmedabad-based team was the first to qualify for the playoffs.
It wasn’t easy for them to get to the final. They qualified for the final by defeating Rajasthan Royals in the first qualifier. In addition, they went on to defeat the same team in the final. Gujarat Titans won by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare against Rajasthan Royals. Hardik Pandya and his teammates deservedly won the title at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami of the Gujarat Titans set a new record in the Indian Premier League’s history. This season, the veteran fast bowler didn’t have to bat at all. He made history by becoming the first cricketer to play every match of an IPL season without ever having to bat. In IPL 2022, he did not bat in all 16 matches for GT. Shami has appeared in 16 games and claimed 20 wickets.
Shami got off to a good start with the wicket of KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, on the first ball for Gujarat Titans. The Indian pacer discussed his dismissal as well as his friendship with Bengal teammate Wriddhiman Saha.
“We needed to start the tournament well (on the first ball dismissal of KL in the team’s first game), set up a template for the team. The idea was only to start well for the team, concentrate on the line and length,” Shami said.
“We (himself and Saha) have known each other well for the last 20 years and have a good understanding as well,” he added.
