Mayank Agarwal has been dropped out of the squad for the fifth postponed Test match between India and England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released India’s 17-member squad on May 22 (Sunday), however, Agarwal’s name was not among them.
Mayank was a member of India’s squad for the most recent Test series against Sri Lanka. Priyank Panchal, the second opening batter, has been left out as well. Mayank, who was left out of the Indian squad, could play for his home state of Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy knockouts, which begin on June 6 in Bengaluru.
Mayank Agarwal dropped from India’s Test squad

Team India has named an 18-man squad captained by Rohit Sharma for the postponed Test against England, which will be played at Edgbaston from July 1 to 5. Rohit’s vice-captain and opening partner will be KL Rahul, who will be fresh off leading India’s second-string T20I side against South Africa at home.
Following Mayank Agarwal‘s terrible IPL 2022 campaign and unimpressive Test appearances against Sri Lanka and South Africa, Shubman Gill is the team’s only backup opener.
In the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, Mayank Agarwal has struggled with the bat. The opening batter also gave up his spot for England’s Jonny Bairstow, and the Punjab Kings have reaped the benefits. They are, however, eliminated from the playoff race.
In terms of Mayank’s Test cricket performance, the 31-year-old has played in 21 matches for India and has scored 1488 runs. In the longest format of the game, he has already stroked six fifties and four hundreds at an average of 41.33.
With Agarwal and Panchal out, Mayank’s close friend KL Rahul appears to be the best option to open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the fifth and final Test against England.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s return is the squad’s biggest highlight. Due to his lack of good performances over the last two years, the seasoned No. 3 batter was dropped. He has now been rewarded for his outstanding county career at Sussex, where he averaged 120 and scored four centuries (two of which were double centuries) in only eight innings.

Meanwhile, Rahul Tripathi got snubbed from the T20I squad. After Tripathi was left out of the T20I team, the fans were furious. Tripathi has been playing well enough recently, according to social media users, to warrant a national call-up.
