Former cricketers Graeme Smith and Kevin Pietersen engaged in some amusing banter during the IPL 2022 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 3, 2022, at the DY Patil Stadium. Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya elected to bat first after winning the toss and struck 143/8 in 50 balls with five fours and one six off Sai Sudarshan.
Wriddhiman Saha was the next highest scorer with 21 runs, while Kagiso Rabada of PBKS took 4/33. Shikhar Dhawan stayed standing on 62 in the chase, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 40 in 28 balls and Liam Livingstone struck 30* in ten balls, including a huge 117-meter six off Mohammad Shami. Graeme Smith, on the other hand, seemed disinterested in the banter and said that he did not need to spend time with Pietersen’s nonsense, before pausing and coming up with his own shut-downer.
Smith, who won the IPL with Rajasthan Royals in 2008, then scorned Pietersen, saying, “I need to spend my time with your nonsense….Have you ever won an IPL match?” Though Pietersen played in the IPL from 2008 to 2016, he was never a member of an IPL-winning team.
The event occurred in the 14th over, when the official broadcasters chose to highlight the most six-hitters in the current IPL 2022, with Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Smith providing analysis with Murali Kartik. Pietersen was counting down the batters as Jos Buttler smashed 36 sixes in ten innings, Andre Russell smashed 22 maximums in eight innings, and Liam Livingstone smashed 20 sixes in ten innings in the IPL 2022.

As Pietersen concluded his data reading, he said, “Liam Livingstone may not have hit many sixes, but he did smash the biggest (six of the tournament)” and then questioned Graeme Smith, “Have you ever hit a six in your career, Mr. Smith?” The camera then pans to the communication box, where Pietersen can be seen chuckling with Murali Kartik over his remark.
