Since his IPL debut in 2017, Rahul Tripathi has been one of the most consistent performances. Rahul has played beautifully for Rising Pune Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, and even Rajasthan Royals. He has since represented four franchises, including the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Currently, the brilliant batter is a member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, despite his ability to perform well in IPL, SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn finds it unusual that Rahul Tripathi has not been given the opportunity to wear the India shirt. Further clarifying the matter, the Proteas speed icon stated that Tripathi can most surely be included in India’s T20I team. “I believe Rahul has a good chance of making India’s T20I selection. The IPL provides a platform for individuals to achieve at such a high level that they are selected for the Indian national squad. Steyn said It’s odd that he hasn’t been given a chance in the Indian team thus far,” Steyn told Sportskeeda.
“Given that the position he bats at [no. 3] is currently filled by Virat Kohli in the Indian team, securing that berth will be challenging.” However, with the way he is currently playing and has previously performed, he has undoubtedly demonstrated maturity. He’s raising his hand and closing the door shut with all his might,” he continued. The number four spot is very contentious with lead players like Shreyas Iyer, Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and many others contesting for the spot. Tripathi will have to perform consistently and prove his worth if he needs an India call-up. Given the T-20 world cup, Tripathi’s performance will form a strong case for him as many players are currently having not-so-good form.
Rahul Tripathi has had a strong season thus far, scoring 228 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 174.05. He was a critical cog in the Orange Army’s five-game winning streak following two losses in the opening two games of the IPL 2022.
The 2016 victors paid INR 8.5 crore for his services at this year’s major auction in February. He’ll be trying to continue his excellent form with the bat when SRH faces defending champions CSK at Pune’s MCA Stadium on May 1.
