On Saturday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made the announcement that all cricket fans had been waiting for: their captain for the upcoming season. Former India captain Virat Kohli passed the captaincy baton to former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, according to a video posted on social media by RCB.
Messages of congratulations began pouring in for Faf after his appointment as the new captain of the Bengaluru-based franchise, including from his predecessor Kohli, former franchise CSK, and ex-Proteas teammate and best friend AB de Villiers, among others. Now, the South African batter has praised Virat Kohli and stated that he will seek advice from the batting legend.
Faf du Plessis on Virat Kohli

At the IPL 2022 auction, RCB paid Rs 7 crore for Faf du Plessis, who spent a decade with Chennai Super Kings.
Faf Du Plessis said at the RCB unbox event in Bengaluru that when he leads RCB in the IPL 2022, which begins on March 26, he will look to bounce ideas off Virat Kohli.

“Virat Kohli, just not for RCB but also for the international game, he is one of the most respected leaders of the game. Huge respect for what he has done with the bat in his hand but also from a captaincy perspective. He has changed Indian cricket and I have seen that over time, playing against India. I could see that leadership footprint in the Indian team. A competitive, fit team that was fighting fire with fire,” Faf du Plessis said.
“He has got an extremely strong leadership style. That is something that we will still need even if he is not being the captain, that energy that he brings to himself and also for the team is hugely important for us. So like that, we will try and use that as best as we can”, he added.
On March 27, RCB will play Punjab Kings at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai to kick off their IPL 2022 campaign.
