According to an official IPL media statement issued on Friday, Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been “reprimanded” for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. RCB’s Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday saw Karthik break the Code of Conduct.
In the Eliminator, RCB defeated LSG and will now face Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
Dinesh Karthik Reprimanded For Violating IPL Code of Conduct
In the IPL 2022 Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was sanctioned for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
“Dinesh Karthik from Royal Challengers Bangalore has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 25th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata,” IPL said in an official statement on Friday.
Karthik’s breach was classified as a Level 1 violation, with the match referee’s decision being final. The sanction was accepted by the veteran right-hander.
“Mr. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement further added.
In the Eliminator against LSG, Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 37 runs off 23 balls, and he and Rajat Patidar (112 not out) helped RCB reach 207/4 in 20 overs. RCB eventually won by 14 runs, and they will now compete in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals. The Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified for the playoffs after defeating the Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium.
In the points table, RCB was ranked fourth. In the current season, Karthik has 324 runs in 15 matches. He was recently named to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against South Africa. Karthik is averaging 64.80 for RCB this IPL season, with a strike rate of 187.28 and the highest score of 66 against Delhi Capitals.
