Sunrisers Hyderabad had a fairly difficult season in 2021 when they finished with a wooden spoon at the bottom of the table. The team had complicated issues with their star batsman, David Warner and were criticized by fans and supporters on how they treated him. Their batting also seemed brittle and susceptible to collapse.
The 2022 IPL auctions were hence extremely important for the franchise as they had to build a strong batting line-up to be able to compete and be considered challengers. The team lost David Warner as well as their star spinner, Rashid Khan. In the auctions, the franchise picked up a nice set of players.
They tried to cover all bases by being strategic with their budget. Aiden Markram was picked at the top of the order as an anchor. Nicholas Pooran was brought in as the aggressor and enforcer in the middle order who would close games. Apart from this, they also retained the promising Umran Malik who regularly bowls at 150 kmph.
The team also got the services of Glenn Phillips for INR 1.5 crores . An attacking right-handed wicket-keeper batsman, Glenn Phillips, is widely tipped as one of the next-generation batsmen. The young batsman has been a consistent performer for the last two three years and his aggressive batting style made him a perfect replacement for Pooran in case of injury.
Glenn Phillips has not joined the SRH squad
However, many SRH fans have been left wondering why the Kiwi has not yet joined the squad bubble. He was not picked for their first encounter with Rajasthan Royals as well and was nowhere to be found in the dug-out.
Plenty of fans have been wondering where he is and have reached out to him. It has now been learnt that Phillips is yet to land in India. He has contracted the Covid-19 virus and is currently quarantining in New Zealand. He also reassured his fans and supporters that he shall join the squad as soon as he can.
Here is hoping that Glenn recovers soon and is able to join the team at the earliest. This shall positively bolster the SRH batting firepower.
