There is no doubt that IPL is a popular league and players around the world want to play this. Youngsters from various countries look up to playing here to be able to hone their skills to the optimum. It has now so happened that foreign players are making their debuts in IPL before getting a national cap.
One such player is the South African Marco Jansen. He made a fantastic debut for Mumbai Indians last year and has ever since risen up the ranks in national set-up as well as IPL. In the 2022 auctions he was picked up by SRH and he finally got his first game for the franchise today against CSK.
Jansen proves his mettle with a dream wicket
Jansen had a good performance overall as he gave away 30 runs in his 4 overs. However, his golden moment came in the 18th over when on the 3rd ball he picked up the dangerous MS Dhoni. MSD had got 3 off 5 balls when Jansen bowled a short pitch ball which Dhoni connected but it landed straight into Umran Malik’s hands at fine leg.
Marco Jansen expresses his joy with his first wicket
It is no mean feat to have MS Dhoni as the first wicket. Understandably, he was overjoyed with the wicket. He said, ” Anyone will be happy to get MS Dhoni,” said Marco Jansen after the first innings. “Nervous at the start, but nice to get the opportunity. The back of a length is the most difficult to play along with your change-ups… There weren’t many swings for me, so I went for the cross-seam route.”
SRH would hope that their performance goes on an upward trajectory after the addition of Jansen to the squad. The team has had a slow start and this was the first win of their season. The team would wish to keep the momentum from hereon and win on the trot. The bowling seems set with the likes of Bhuvi, Jansen, Natarajan and Washington Sundar. The batting needs some inspiration to put up a good show.
