As many cricket fanatics can agree to this fact, IPL has been a forum for several young and talented cricketers. This tournament acts as a gateway for several cricketers to get into the international format of the game. After some players’ successful campaigns in the U-19 team format, IPL acts as a booster to their performance. But some players couldn’t utilise the IPL platform and had an unsuccessful campaign post their winning U-19 campaign. Here’s a list of the five U-19 stars who have been a flop in the IPL.
Unmukt Chand
The 2012 U-19 World Cup-winning captain, Unmukt Chand, was one of the quality batters and was the next big thing. After leading the team to their third U-19 World Cup title, many have expected him to be a highlight in the IPL. He made his IPL debut with the Delhi Daredevils, and he didn’t have a favourable start to his IPL campaign after getting bowled for a duck by Bret Lee. Though he was a part of teams like Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, he wasn’t promising enough in his whole IPL campaign.
Vijay Zol
Vijay Zol was a part of the winning 2012 U-19 World Cup, and he was a reliable batter in the middle order and has provided some runs for the team. He made a breakthrough in the IPL with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But couldn’t perform up to the mark and didn’t get a breakthrough in a platform like IPL.
Tanmay Srivastava
Tanmay Srivastava was a part of the winning 2008 U-19 World Cup campaign under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. He was the best and most reliable batter of the Indian squad. Tanmay kickstarted his IPL campaign with the Kings XI Punjab. But, he couldn’t prove his calibre with his batting and remained a player warming up on the bench for several franchises.
Ricky Bhui
Ricky Bhui had his association with the National side in the 2014 and 2016 U-19 World Cup. Thanks to his batting skills, he was touted as the next big thing in the sport. In the 2017 edition, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But couldn’t perform to the fullest and turned out to be a flop.
Baba Aparjitha
Being a part of the 2012 U-19 winning squad, Baba Aparjitha was one of the standout players. He was reliable with his all-rounding skills. As his game suggests, many expected him to be the next thing in the Indian cricket team. As his talent suggests, he was a part of the franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants. But, he couldn’t get a match to prove his pure calibre.
