T20 cricket is without a doubt the batsman’s game, with short boundaries, fast outfields, fielding limits, and batting-friendly grounds. The bowlers’ sole saving grace is that they just have to bowl four overs — 24 balls. However, there have been times when even that figure was too much to bear.
While batsmen are ecstatic when they reach 50 runs, bowlers are terrified of reaching that level. There has been no shortage of similar occurrences in the IPL. Many records have been broken on the ideal Indian batting courses with pulled-in boundary ropes.
1.Basil Thampi: 0-70 vs RCB
Basil Thampi owns the worst record for giving up the most runs in an IPL match. When Thampi played for SRH in their second IPL match against RCB, he was hammered for 70 runs. Basil Thampi set the record for most runs conceded in four overs while bowling for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Moeen Ali hit two sixes in his first two balls. In his first over, the tall bowler handed up 19 runs. AB de Villiers hauled him for a massive six in his following over, which went for 18 runs. Thampi let up 19 runs in his last over after a strong third over and finished with 70 runs in his four overs.
2.Ishant Sharma: 0-66 vs CSK
Ishant Sharma had a terrible day in the second IPL 2013 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. A powerful CSK batting line-up thrashed India’s best bowler in Test cricket. In his first three deliveries, Ishant Sharma, who bowled the second over, only gave up one run. His following three gave away a total of ten runs. In the next over, Murali Vijay clobbered him for three straight sixes. The tall pacer was summoned back to bowl the 17th over after giving up 41 in his first three overs. Suresh Raina hit four fours and a six to help Ishant Sharma finish with numbers of 4-0-66-0.
3.Umesh Yadav: 0-65 vs RCB
Umesh Yadav of the Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) gave up 65 runs and failed to pick up a wicket in the second match of the IPL 2013 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Vidarbha pacer got off to a good start, giving 8 runs in the powerplay’s last over and 10 runs in the innings’ eighth over. The right-arm fast let up 24 runs in his third over and 23 in his last over to finish with a dreadful 0-65, helping RCB record the first-inning total of 183/4.
4.Sandeep Sharma: 1-65 vs SRH
The medium-pacer, who is 25 years old, is a precise bowler who extracts lateral movement from the new ball. However, his bowling lacks pace, making him vulnerable to batting onslaughts. He began bowling for Kings XI Punjab against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2014 at Hyderabad. He began his third over with two no-balls after allowing only 13 runs in his first two overs, and Shikhar Dhawan blasted him for 26 runs in the over. When Sandeep returned to bowl at the death, Naman Ojha delivered him another 26-run over.
5.Siddharth Kaul: 0-64 vs Mumbai Indians
Kaul’s 64 runs in four overs were more costly than Dale Steyn’s 57 runs in four overs in IPL 13. Kaul had a rough day at the workplace against the Mumbai Indians, filling in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was sidelined with an injury (MI). He went for 19 runs in his first over and allowed 21 runs in the final over.
