Following the conclusion of the five-match T20I series against South Africa, the Indian team’s focus will shift to the UK tour. The white-ball side will play two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland, while the first-choice team, led by Rohit Sharma, will face a rejuvenated England side in the series’ final Test. The team is likely to see some changes from the last time they face England. Most notably the star middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane has missed the bus for the tout.
Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer have been regular members of the side since then. Cheteshwar Pujara, on the other hand, has put his name back in the running for a place in the playing XI after a string of outstanding performances in the County Championship. Though Rahane was deemed injured for the series still fans did not hesitate in poking some fun at the Mumbai batsman.
Ajinkya Rahane not in Team India squad to face England

Following India’s defeat in South Africa earlier this year, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were both dropped from the Test squad. While Pujara has been re-inducted into the England Test squad, Rahane has been dropped due to his poor match form in the IPL, where he scored 133 runs in seven games for Kolkata Knight Riders. With Shreyas Iyer back in the mix, it appears that Rahane will not play a Test match for India.
A lot of fans and pundits agree that Rahane shouldn’t be in the squad to face England as his form has been very poor. Brad Hogg, a former Australia spinner, praised the selectors for choosing Iyer over Rahane. He also backed the dropping of pacer Ishant Sharma, claiming that it was past time for youth to shine.
“I think it’s great that the selectors have dropped Rahane and Ishant Sharma from the Test team. They have been ageing and haven’t been performing of late. You need to get the youth in and rotate them so that they get to experience alongside those who are already experienced,” Hogg said.
Meanwhile, Rahane has been trolled on Twitter for getting dropped from the test team.
