CSK has been one of the most consistent and powerful teams in IPL history, grooming a number of young players who have gone on to become T20I legends. In the previous edition, Chennai Super Kings missed out on the playoffs for the first time in IPL history, but they are back to their best this season and have won IPL 2021.
When it comes to CSK, the franchise has produced some of the game’s best players, including Stephen Fleming, Matthew Hayden, Makhaya Ntini, and other international luminaries. Veteran Indian players like Lakshmipathy Balaji, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, and others have worn the CSK shirt in the IPL alongside foreign names. Chennai Super Kings have a history of producing match-winners over the years. They sign the players they believe are the best fit for their squad and utilize them in such a way that they stand out from the crowd. Many unsuccessful players in the IPL have become stars after joining CSK.
1. Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu, a former Mumbai Indians player is a great example for this list. Rayudu was with Mumbai Indians at first. With the passage of time, the right-handed batsman’s performance deteriorated. Before the 2018 season, Mumbai decided to release him. He was signed by Chennai Super Kings and given the opportunity to bat in the top order. Rayudu has been outstanding for CSK since he joined the team. His contributions have aided CSK several times in important games. While playing for CSK, he also scored his first IPL century.
2. Ashish Nehra
Before joining Chennai Super Kings, former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra’s career was virtually over. Nehra joined CSK, and his outstanding performances helped him reclaim his place in the Indian T20I team. The Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, and Pune Warriors India all used the left-arm fast bowler. Following that, he joined CSK and took 30 wickets in 20 matches, at an economy rate of 7.68.
3. Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo, the former captain of the West Indies cricket team, was a member of the Mumbai Indians during the first three seasons. Bravo even led the Mumbai franchise to victory in the Indian Premier League. Unfortunately, after the 2010 season, he was released by the team’s administration. Bravo was purchased in the auction by Chennai Super Kings, and he has been outstanding for them ever since.
4. Pawan Negi
In the IPL 2012 season, Delhi Daredevils signed Royal Challengers Bangalore star Pawan Negi. He played with Delhi for a number of seasons before being released. He was recruited by Chennai Super Kings in 2014 and quickly developed into a match-winner. In 12 matches for Chennai, Negi scored 116 runs at a strike rate of 158.90. In addition, he took six wickets for the franchise. He was able to break into the Indian team with this performance.
5. Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar was turned down as a cricketer when he was 16, but by sheer determination and hard work, he found himself playing in the IPL in 2016. In his first two seasons in the IPL, he was a member of the Rising Pune Supergiant, although he didn’t contribute much. In the 2018 auction, the Chennai Super Kings opted to purchase him. Chahar demonstrated his worth by taking 10 wickets in his debut season with CSK as they won the IPL for the third time, and this was only the beginning of what was to come. Chahar’s ability to give up fewer runs and take early wickets was crucial to the team’s success. He has become a highly significant player for CSK as a result of his recent performances.
