On October 17 (Sunday), 2021, the seventh edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup began with a qualifying round match between Oman and Papua New Guinea at Al Amerat, Oman. In all, 16 teams are competing in the competition, with 12 of them competing in the Super 12.
On October 24th, India will open their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign in Dubai against arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super12 Group match.
In this article, we look at the name of players who can turn out to be a star in this year of WT20I.
1. Varun Chakravarthy
Because of his mystery factor, the BCCI selectors were bound to pick Varun Chakravarthy in the 15-member team for the T20 World Cup. During his time in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, the leg spinner turned a lot of heads. The mystery spinner’s performances delighted IPL clubs, and he was quickly signed to an IPL deal by Punjab Kings, followed by a move to Kolkata Knight Riders. Opposing teams had a hard time picking him because of his clever variations and unconventional bowling style. He also made his international debut against Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, where he took two wickets.
2. Tabraiz Shamsi
In many respects, the world is still unaware of the left-arm unorthodox spinner’s outstanding performance. The South African cricketer isn’t a superstar, but his statistics propel him to the top. He gained fame after being purchased by Caribbean T20 League team St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2015. He was known for his vintage celebrations after getting wickets. For many casual cricket fans, Shamsi may not be a big name, yet he is presently one of the best T20I bowlers in the world.
3. Hayden Walsh
During their recent limited-overs series, Australia’s batsmen struggled against West Indian leg-spinner Hayden Walsh. Walsh took seven wickets in three One-Day Internationals and 12 in five Twenty-20 Internationals. It was difficult for West Indies selectors to overlook him for the next T20 World Cup after his breakthrough performance. West Indies have taken a risk by going with just one professional spinner which is Walsh.
4. Devon Conway
After a stellar domestic season, the selectors eventually gave in and included Devon Conway in the West Indies T20I series. Conway has played 14 games since then, scoring 473 runs at an amazing average of 59.12. Conway’s quick rise to prominence in such a short time has kept a certain Colin Munro out of the team.
5. Chamika Karunaratne
Chamika Karunaratne’s statistics aren’t very impressive, but he has made the Sri Lankan team for the T20 World Cup. He has scored 69 runs off 55 balls in six Twenty20 Internationals. He made his T20I debut against India and has appeared in all three of his team’s games, in which they won 2-1. While leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was the team’s outstanding performer, Karunaratne was equally as successful in the lower order.
