The Indian Premier League is the most-watched cricketing event internationally. It is a plethora of massive giants from different countries teaming up and clashing with each other for ownership of the shiny cup. This year, it was debutant Gujarat Titans that took home the cup with their masterclass. Multiple teams have won the cup multiple times in history, with MI having won it five times, CSK emerging victorious in 3, and KKR winning it twice.
Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by actor Shahrukh Khan, is a force to reckon with in the IPL. Having won two cups, KKR has made a name for itself in the series. Known for its explosive batting lineup, KKR has had phases where the bowlers come out and snatch the game away from the opponent by showing a masterclass with the bat. After having a decent season this year, here are a few players KKR would look to target in the 2023 season :
1) Ben Stokes –
The man of all formats, Ben Stokes has created quite a reputation for himself in the cricketing world. From being sunk deep in controversies to rising like a star, Stokes has seen all ups and downs. Having played for Rajasthan Royals in 2021, the English Test team captain was unavailable for the 2022 season. If he decides to make a comeback next year, the KKR are sure to target him, as his all-around skills would help Andre Russell on the field by balancing each other out.
2) Paul Stirling –
The explosive Irish batsman Paul Stirling is also a name worthy of inclusion in the KKR side. His opening skills would be very beneficial for KKR as his regular hard-hitting would release the pressure on his opening partner, who could go ahead and play a steady game.
3) Sam Curran –
One of the most notable names on the list, Sam Curran is a top-notch youngster playing for England. He achieved his true IPL potential under MS Dhoni’s CSK. His fine bowling technique combined with his tactical batting skills is a much-needed requirement, not only for KKR but for all teams that could lay a hand on him. If he chooses to participate in 2023, he might fetch a huge price at the auction.
4) Phil Salt –
Yet another Englishman on the list, Phil Salt is yet to earn as much fame as his two counterparts. A wicketkeeper-batsman, Phil Salt is capable of batting in the top as well as the middle order. KKR might want him as a reserve keeper-batsman.
5) Colin Munro –
The black caps all-rounder is a worthy addition to the list of players KKR might target before the 2023 season. Munro has had an immense amount of experience playing T20 cricket, and experience is something which KKR would look to have more of on its team. He has the power to hit long sixes, and his pace bowling consists of a variety of different balls and lengths, which often confuses the batsmen. These qualities will be taken into consideration by KKR.
