The IPL 2022 auction in Bengaluru saw a total of 204 players sold. For two days, franchises competed to recruit the best players for their teams. The signing of players from all over the world cost a total of INR 550 crores. While some well-known players were unsuccessful in finding a buyer, a few players sparked a bidding war.
There were some smart bargain buys that could prove to be game-changers in the upcoming IPL season.
Alex Hales

Alex Hales, England’s lethal opener, competes in a variety of T20 franchise tournaments around the world. Lately, he’s been in scintillating form. Unfortunately, over the years, franchises have shown little interest in Alex Hales’ services. This year, he went unsold in the first round of IPL bidding as well but was later purchased by KKR in the accelerated round for INR 1.50 crore.
Devon Conway

Devon Conway has quickly established himself as an important member of the New Zealand national team. The opening batsman has extensive domestic cricket experience in South Africa and New Zealand. It’s incredible to get a player like him for 1 crore.
Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell has signed his first Indian Premier League contract. He’ll be wearing the Rajasthan Royals’ pink jersey in the upcoming edition of the world’s biggest T20 cricket tournament. The 30-year-old is a solid batsman in the lower middle order and a capable bowler. It’s difficult to find a player like him for the base price of 75 lakhs.
Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram sparked a brief bidding war between three teams for his services, with Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually winning the deal for INR 2.6 crore. With 162 runs at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 145.94, he was South Africa’s second-highest run-scorer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He’s also shown some recent skill with the ball, making him an appealing all-round package for the T20 format.
Rassie van der Dussen

After going unsold on day one, Rajasthan Royal purchased Rassie van der Dussen in the accelerated auction at base price in the final minutes of the auction on day two. Rassie made his Proteas debut in 2018 and has quickly established himself as an important cog in the Proteas T20I machine.
