The IPL will be commencing from next week after an abrupt end in the first half. There were Covid-19 cases reported in the bio-bubbles because of which the tournament had to be indefinitely canceled. The BCCI, a few months ago, announced that the IPL’s remaining matches would be played in UAE from mid-September.
With the IPL having approached, the youngsters in the squad would be rearing to go out there and perform. The IPL has been a stage for youngsters to showcase their talent and get selected to the national team. Players like Hardik Pandya, Pant, Iyer, and Shaw have all become household names today on the back of their phenomenal performances.
With this IPL resuming, we look at 5 Indian youngsters who would want to make a mark in the tournament with a view to be selected in the national team.
1. Chetan Sakariya
Sakariya was phenomenal in the 2021 IPL and his left arm swing left many players surprised. He has found a place in the Indian team that has traveled to Sri Lanka. If nurtured well, he could be a vital asset in overseas swing conditions. His utility would be enormous in pitches of South Africa and England. He is young and skillful. A young left-handed Bhuvi is in the making.
2. Devdutt Padikkal
Padikkal’s compact technique and great temperament have already impressed the purists. His delectable drives and pulls are a treat to watch. He has made the opening position his own in Royal Challenger Bangalore. With Gill and Shaw still not 100% certainty and Sharma approaching the last leg of his career, Devdutt could be the answer to the selector’s headache.
3. Rahul Chahar
The young leg-spinner has been a part of Mumbai Indians. He is an attacking option and picks wickets at regular intervals. Jadeja and Ashwin have been at the center for very long but will eventually have to make way for youngsters. Chahar has played some great cricket up until now and has been rewarded with a place in the T20 squad. However, he would want to perform well in this IPL to consolidate his place in the team. With Chahar clicking for Mumbai Indians this season, he can be a brilliant addition to India’s long-term goals. His leg spin with Axar Patel’s left-arm spin could be the future.
4. Avesh Khan
Avesh is known for his ability to generate raw pace and bounce. Khan impressed with his performance in the 2021 IPL picking up 14 wickets in the 8 games. He was rewarded for his show by finding a place on the flight to England. With more improved showing over the new few years, he is bound to become a big part of the test set-up. He will be a great replacement to Ishant Sharma.
5. Sanju Samson
One of the sweetest timers of the ball, Samson has been assigned the captaincy duties this season. It is a punt that the franchisee must be hoping works out. A lot of expectations are attached with Samson delivering in his new role. Samson started off well and almost won the match against Punjab single-handedly. His captaincy has been splendid and inspired. He would be raring to perform in the IPL to win back his place in the team.
