The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to begin on March 31st. The first match of the T20 tournament will feature the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The IPL has over 15 individual awards, but the most prestigious one is the orange cap, awarded to the batsman who scores the highest number of runs throughout the season. There are some lesser-known players who have the potential to win the orange cap in the upcoming IPL 2023 season.
1. Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh was in impressive form for Australia in the recently concluded ODI series against India, playing a key role in their 2-1 victory. He scored 191 runs in three matches, including two half-centuries, making him a strong candidate for the orange cap in the upcoming IPL 2023.
2. Devon Conway
After showing his batting prowess in the previous season, Devon Conway is eager to improve his performance and secure his spot in the CSK team. He is set to open alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and is determined to have a better campaign in IPL 2023. In the previous season, he amassed 252 runs in 7 innings with three half-centuries, and if he maintains his consistency, Conway could be among the top run-scorers in the upcoming tournament.
3. Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi, who played for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022, had a successful season with 413 runs in 14 matches at an average of 37.55 and a strike rate of 158.24, including three fifties. Having played IPL since 2017, he has scored a total of 1798 runs in 76 matches with an average of 28.09 and a strike rate of approximately 140. Therefore, Tripathi could be a potential contender for the orange cap in IPL 2023.
4. Aiden Markram
Following his impressive performance in the South African T20I side, Aiden Markram has been appointed as the captain of his national team’s T20I side as well as his IPL franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite scoring only 381 runs in 12 innings in the last season, Markram is expected to perform better in IPL 2023 with a full tournament to showcase his skills.
