Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful players in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Indian cricketer has been a part of a winning IPL team for six seasons, the most by any player to date. He captained the Mumbai Indians to five IPL wins after winning the trophy as a player with the defunct Deccan Chargers in 2009.
He is one of just four players in the tournament to reach 5,000 career runs. Sharma is the fourth-highest run-scorer behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina, with 5,480 runs, one century, and 40 half-centuries.
Given how much he has done for the MI franchise, Rohit Sharma becomes an easy choice to stay there for the long term. Rohit has led Mumbai Indians from the front with five IPL championships and other spectacular performances. It’ll probably stay that way till he hangs his boots. One of the main reasons why Mumbai Indians is one of the most successful franchises in the world is because of Hitman of Indian Cricket and Mumbai Indians’ Captain. But cricket is unpredictable and any player can leave any team.
Delhi Capitals
The Delhi Capitals had filed a wish list before the auction in 2011, which included Yusuf Pathan, Saurabh Tiwary, Shakib Al Hasan, Parthiv Patel, and Rohit Sharma. Despite their best efforts, the team owners were unable to get any of the players they desired. Only Virender Sehwag had been retained ahead of the 2011 IPL season, and it would have been a delight for the fans if Delhi had signed Rohit. The Hitman and Sehwag might have opened the innings together and annihilated the opposition bowlers. If Delhi had purchased Rohit in the IPL 2011 Auction, they would have won their first IPL Championship. If Rohit Sharma moves to Delhi Capitals now, he can form an unstoppable partnership with Shikhar Dhawan and the pair will make Delhi a force to reckon with.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
If Royal Challengers Bangalore had been able to have Rohit Sharma in their lineup, they may have won several IPL titles. They had TM Dilshan, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers in their side in 2011. RCB had the finances to pursue Rohit, but they paid $1.6 million for Saurabh Tiwary to join the squad. As a result, the team’s management made a huge mistake in the 2011 auction by selecting Tiwary over Sharma. If RCB had been more daring in 2011, Virat and Rohit would have been dominating the competition by now. RCB would have won at least one IPL by now if Rohit Sharma had been in their lineup.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings have let go of the majority of its players before the 2011 mega-auction. Only MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Albie Morkel, and Murali Vijay remained in the squad. Ravichandran Ashwin ($0.85 million) and Subramaniam Badrinath ($0.8 million) were their two most expensive acquisitions. Both players, however, were not on Chennai Super Kings’ wishlist, which included Yusuf Pathan, Saurabh Tiwary, Angelo Mathews, and Rohit Sharma. CSK would have been unbeatable with batsmen like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Rohit Sharma if he Rohit had joined CSK back then. One can only think how deadly Rohit Sharma would have been if he hadn’t been under leadership strain at CSK.
