After the Men in Blue suffered an embarrassing loss to Bangladesh in the first ODI, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been criticized by both fans and experts. India managed to reduce the hosts to nine wickets by scoring 186 runs in the first inning. However, Sharma’s team was unable to secure the decisive wicket and fell short.
Team India were bowled out for 186 in 41.2 overs while batting first. The bowlers responded by reducing the hosts to 136/9. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, though, struck 38* off 39 as Bangladesh managed a comeback victory.
The final Bangladeshi combination of Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman (10* off 11) added 51* runs while India, although having the upper hand, was unable to exert any pressure. After Team India’s unexpected loss, analysts and former cricket players have been very critical of Rohit’s captaincy.

Apart from his leadership, Rohit has also come under fire for his subpar batting performance. He was dismissed for 27 off 31 on Sunday in Dhaka, continuing his struggles.
Rohit acknowledged that there were no excuses for Team India’s narrow loss in the first ODI against Bangladesh because they were accustomed to playing in such conditions.

“The pitch was a bit challenging, the odd ball was turning. You have to understand how to play. There are no excuses, we are used to such types of conditions. We need to look at how to bat against their spinners in these conditions. The genes are there, these guys grew up playing in such conditions. It is all about handling pressure,” Rohit Sharma said.
“It wasn’t enough runs. Another 30-40 runs would have made a difference. With KL and Washy (Washington Sundar), we could have got there. Unfortunately, we lost wickets in the middle, and it is not easy to make a comeback. If you look back at how we bowled, of course the last few overs where we would have liked to get a wicket, we kept taking wickets all through,” he added.
